Dowing is a personal shadowing tool that helps you listen to sentences or audio, repeat them, and manage local practice records.

1. Agreement

By downloading or using Dowing, you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded in your place of residence.

2. What Dowing provides

The current version provides no account, server sync, advertising, subscription or pronunciation score. Features may vary by device, operating-system version and installed voices.

  • Playback of entered sentences using device text-to-speech
  • Direct recording of source audio or import of audio files up to 20 MB
  • Recording, playback and speed control for your shadowing attempts
  • Renaming, favouriting, trash, restore and deletion for sentences, sources and recordings
  • Selection of the display language and available device reading languages and voices

3. Licence

While you comply with these Terms, Dowing grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the app for personal and lawful purposes. Ownership of the app, design, marks and source is not transferred to you.

Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement may also govern the licence obtained through the App Store. Any conflict is interpreted consistently with applicable law and the App Store distribution terms.

4. Your sentences and audio

You retain your rights in content you enter, record or import. Dowing does not claim ownership of it.

You are responsible for having the rights or permission needed to use that content without infringing copyright, privacy, publicity or other rights. Do not import or record lectures, films, music, conversations or other material you are not legally entitled to use.

5. Recording and consent

Before recording another person or a conversation, obtain any consent required by applicable law. Some locations and circumstances require the consent of every participant. Dowing is not responsible for the legality of your recording activity.

6. Prohibited use

  • Violating law, a court order or another person’s rights
  • Interfering with or bypassing the app’s security, stability or normal operation
  • Copying, reselling, reverse engineering or distributing the app beyond what law permits
  • Using the app to process malware, unlawful material or unauthorised recordings
  • Falsely implying an affiliation with or endorsement by Dowing or another person

7. Local storage and your responsibility

Dowing provides no separate server backup. You are responsible for device access controls, free storage, operating-system backups and keeping important original files. Permanent deletion, Reset Data, app removal, device damage or operating-system problems may make data unrecoverable.

8. Device and third-party services

Dowing relies on iOS microphone, document picker, text-to-speech, audio playback, haptics and App Store distribution. Their availability and operation depend on Apple software, settings and terms outside Dowing’s control.

Imported content and any external link you open may be subject to the relevant provider’s terms and policies.

9. Changes, updates and discontinuation

Dowing may change, suspend or discontinue features and provide updates for security, compatibility, legal requirements or product improvement. Some features may not work on older systems or devices. We will give reasonable notice of material changes where practicable.

10. Learning outcomes

Dowing is a personal practice tool, not an educational institution, examination body, speech-therapy service or professional adviser. It does not guarantee a score, pronunciation improvement, employment or academic outcome, or a particular level of language proficiency.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dowing is provided as available without a guarantee of uninterrupted operation, compatibility with every audio format, data preservation or freedom from error. Non-excludable guarantees and consumer rights, including under the Australian Consumer Law where applicable, remain unaffected.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dowing is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use or inability to use the app, user content, device failure, deletion or backup failure. This does not exclude liability that cannot legally be limited.

13. Ending use

You may stop using and remove the app at any time. Your right to use it may end, to the extent permitted by law, if you materially breach these Terms or threaten the app’s safety. Provisions concerning intellectual property, liability and governing law survive where their nature requires.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, without limiting mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. If a dispute arises, the parties should first try to resolve it in good faith through the support address.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as features or legal requirements change and will revise the effective date. Continued use after a material change constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
